In environmental programs, funding and the number of trees planted are often the most visible measures of results. Yet for natural ecosystems, no matter how large the numbers may be, they cannot fully capture the value of a program. What matters is how resources are allocated, how planting sites and tree species are selected, how planting activities are organized, and whether trees are subsequently cared for, monitored and replanted when necessary.

This is also the approach Dat Phuong has adopted in developing and implementing the “1 Billion Green” program. Rather than stopping at financial contributions, the company is working with the Management Board of the Cu Lao Cham – Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve to gradually channel the resources of the Dat Phuong ecosystem into activities that are appropriate to local conditions.
On September 9, 2026, Dat Phuong and the Management Board of the Cu Lao Cham – Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve planted the first 500 trees at Bai Chong and other suitable areas on the island. Planting sites were selected based on field surveys to ensure that the trees have suitable conditions for growth in each location. This marks the first step in a program that Dat Phuong has committed to implementing from 2026 to 2030, with a target of planting 5,000 trees in 2026 alone.
However, financial resources are not the “destination” of the program. The value of the commitment lies in its ability to be transformed into targeted, coordinated activities that can be monitored and sustained over the long term.
Trees are surveyed, selected for suitability and monitored for growth in each area.
Accordingly, resources are allocated to seedlings, materials and related activities based on plans agreed with the management authority, with all efforts linked to ongoing care, monitoring and replanting where necessary. Alongside the company’s resources, the program also creates opportunities for community participation, helping expand its scale and mobilize additional social resources for environmental protection.
25,000 Trees Are Not the Destination; Long-term Engagement Creates Lasting Value
The 500 trees planted on September 9, 2026 are the first step toward the goal of at least 25,000 trees by 2030. But just as a forest cannot be measured by the number of trees planted in a single day, the impact of “1 Billion Green” should not be viewed solely through the number of trees planted.

Therefore, alongside its quantitative targets, “1 Billion Green” places emphasis on how the program is implemented: selecting suitable areas, prioritizing tree species that are well adapted to local natural conditions, organizing ongoing care and monitoring, and replanting when necessary. Coordination among businesses, the Cu Lao Cham – Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve Management Board, local management agencies and communities is essential to ensuring that resources are directed to the right places at the right time and retain their value over the long term.
Every green action contributes to creating lasting value for the region.
